Hi,
normally you have Microsoft  sticker that is on the computer.
This sticker has Windows product key.
If you do not have on and your Windows is running fine, try to download Belarc.
This is diagnostic tool and will show you serial number of the Windows installation in it's report.
There are several pages of report but it should be on 2nd or 3rd page.

Hope thos helps.

This Toshiba model is laptop (as far as I know).
On the bottom of it there should be a sticker with Windows product code.
With this laptop you should get recovery CDs. Did you get them?
Attention! Recovery CDs will erase all that is on HD and reinstall everything from scratch.
That means you will lost your data.

If you need your data, one of the option (that I use a lot when hard disk is OK) is that I remove the HD from computer and (with proper cables or box) connect it to another computer and get the data that I need.

Please answer on my questions so we can continue.

And don't forget to click yes if the comment was helpfull.thanks

OK, so it is not Windows XP, it is Windows 2000.
You will need Windows 2000 Professional service Pack 4 CD or file to find and download.

Do you have access to another computer where you can download file and then burn it to a CD (USB migt work, but I am not sure for Windows 2000 Pro)?

As has been mentioned you will need the Toshiba restore CD's. Usually you don't need the key when restoring the system from those CD's, as they basically restore an image of an installed system to the PC, using something similar to ghost. Your problem may be that if you don't have those CD's, or lost them, it'll be almost impossible to get them from toshiba, as that OS is very old and probably not available anymore. Normally you can order these CD's from the manufacturer at a minimal price...

If you don't have those CD's I'd suggest installing another OS on that PC. By looking at the specs of that PC it should run fine with Windows 7 (you can download a trial from m$ and try it out before buying it). Or better and cheaper, would be to use Linux Mint, a very easy to use, usually works out of the box, and free Distribution:

You can't download Windows 2000 from the internet, as it is a commercial product and that would be against the license. You either have to buy it, or get recovery CD's from toshiba, or get another OS like I mentioned above.

OK,
go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=4127

Download executable. Do not run once it's done!
When the file has been downloaded, you need to uncompress it (unzip).
I use 7zip software for this. Uncompress in one folder.
Burn file from this folder to a CD. CD is not bootable but you should be able to get the files needed to finish the process.

Again, if you do not have any data that you need on that computer, it will be easier to reinstall Windows from recovery disk.Or maybe try to get another Windows (XP or Windows 7).

I meant burn all files from the folder to CD so you will have all that is there in this service pack.

To Rindi:
He needs to download Service pack as legitimate Windows 2000 Pro owner. That is legal and it is his right. There was no mention to download any illegal software!

he can't reinstall the OS using just the Servicepack. He needs a full Windows 2000 CD with the license key, or the original Toshiba restore CD's.

It may be that your CD drive isn't being recognised in Windows at the point that the SP4 update is being requested.

See:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290790
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=228852

If you are able to unpack the SP4 download, copy the files into a temporary folder on the laptop drive in a folder susch as C:\SP4

Then when the error message recurs point Windows at that folder to install from.  The update should then run and the install complete.

Don't use a non-Toshiba Win2000 disk set to install from or you will get stuck with the system requesting a Product Key you don't have.  If the install disk you talk about your original post is a Toshiba W2K CD you won't need a Product Key.
