Mailbox/user move to child domain

Guys, hope you can help.

We have a root domain containing a exchange 2010 mailbox server with child domains wich also have exchange 2010 server. ineed to move a user from the root doamin to one of the child domains. he has a mailbox in the root domain which also needs to be moved to the child domain exchange. my question is which do I do first:
a. move the mailbox from the root domain exhcnage server to the child domain server and then migrate the account using ADMT?.
b. ADMT the user account to the child domain and then move the mailbox?.

I have scoured the internet and cannot seem to get a definitive answer.

You can use ADMT or MoveTree here, to move objects between different domains in the same forest.

ADMT first and then mailbox.
