VMware Alerts from vCenter

We have a small VMware environment 3 Hosts and a vCenter physical server.

2 Hosts 72GB of RAM, Dual 6 Core CPU with about 2TB of disk space, and 6 NICs each. The Third host is much smaller.

Every once in a while we get an email alert from the vCenter server but when I go into vCenter everything seems fine and I can find no Alerts.

How can I track this down?

Looks like the ESXi Management Agents have either hung for a moment, or there is a communication issue between ESXi and vCenter server. hence the not responding.

But if that was the case shouldn't I see something on that host or in vCenter in Alarms?

You would see the host disappear, maybe as disconnected, or not responding, and then it would come back.

Should be an Alert that corresponds with the email?

We never see the host disappear and there is never and alarm. But it still concerns me.

go to the tasks/events tab for the host and click on the events button.  That will confirm that something has happened...  If it's going offline for a brief time, see if it correlates to some operation like a backup, virus scan, vmotion, etc...
