laptop hard drive data recovery - laptop lost power in middle of ghost process

I have a 320GB Toshiba 2.5" hard drive that was being used to create a Ghost image when the laptop lost power in the middle of the Ghost process. Now the laptop will not boot. I took the drive out and connected it to another PC (Windows 7) via USB and the drive is showing as UNITIALIZED in Disk manager. I loaded GetDataBack but it doesn't see the drive. I then connected the drive via SATA cable to another PC (Windows XP Pro) and it doesn't see the drive at all. The drive is getting power and spinning up. Is there another utility I can use to get the data off of this drive?

Actually, no. If Windows does not see the drive in Disk Management, and the drive is propely connected and the controller drives are fine, the drive is then beyond the software-only recovery.

Even if I can see it as UNITIALIZED in Windows 7?

If you can see it in Windows 7, check what size does disk Management report.

Also, if GetDataBack can see/read other disks, but not the disk in question, then it is not likely something else would work.

Disk Management reports size as UNKNOWN. I attempted an initialization and I received DISK NOT READY error.

This is not recoverable with software then.

wow - the drive worked fine before starting the Ghost process...

Looks like a sudden mechanical problem. Not a gradual degradation like if the surface wears out, but more like an instantenious read head failure or something similar.
