I want to be able to download multiple files at once

I have a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit system and yet it seems that I am not able to download more than 4 files at the same time and yet on a much older XP system, I have no problem downloading 5 or six and that is with 2 GB of RAM for the XP and 16 for the Windows 7 machine with a far faster connection and much greater bandwidth.

How do I get Windows 7 to allow me to download multiple files at the same time and I would like to be able to do at least 7 and preferably more considering the bandwidth I have.

no  I do not and as I said the XP machine with all around far less power can rather easily download the files without a hiccup.

Have you tried using another browser? Try Chrome or IE.

f you want to be able to download more than two files at a time, first type: about:config in the address bar. Then search for this: network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server, double-click it and change the number 2 to e.g. 10.

Caveats

This preference only has an effect if you are not using a proxy. If you are using a proxy, see network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy.

The maximum number of connections of any type to a single server is controlled by network.http.max-connections-per-server.

The maximum number of connections of any type is controlled by network.http.max-connections, which will always take precedent over this preference.

This preference has no effect unless Keep-Alive (network.http.keep-alive) is enabled.

Recommended settings

If you are not using a proxy and experience problems not being able to download multiple files, you can raise this value. It is, however, considered poor etiquette to make too many connections to a server and may lead to you being banned from that server. Anything above 10 is excessive.
