I would like to use a Netgear N600 (Winr3700) as a switch on a small wired network of 4 computers that are not connected to the internet.  Is this possible and how would you set up the router.

Yes it is possible.. No special configuration is required.. just hook up four machines, assign ips in same range and they should be talking to each other...
