SharePoint Error: Task update was not accepted

I have a user who has approval permissions on a task list.  When he goes to approve a task he gets SharePoint Error:  Task update was not accepted.  He did have his AD account changed and then linked to his current email address and I know this can cause a problem, but can find no way to fix this issue.  I have tried crawling the user profiles and still get the same result.  We are using MOSS 2007

After ensuring a complete backup has been performed, examine the object with SharePoint manager:

Since he is using a new account (new SID) you will have to add the new account to the perms on said list
