HP Pavilion DV4 2104US Notebook Display problem

I have a HP Pavilion DV4 2104US Notebook.  When the moitor is open all the way the screen goes black.  When the monitor is open 1/4 of the way it works fine.  I hooked the notebook up using its VGA port to another monitor and it works just fine, that was with me opening and closing the montior all the way.  So , this tells me that the problem is with the display section of the notebook.  Opened up the noebook last night and checked the display cable, and inverter for any loose connections and found none. Any suggestions ?

You talking the display cable ? Would the inverter be bad or would it cause something like this ?
It probably just is the cable. maybe the wires inside are cracked.

Does the same video cable work for all DV4 notebooks. I am looking on ebay and see alot of cables for Dv4 Pavilion notebooks HP part # DC02000I000 , which is what mine has on it but the ending numbers is differnet.  Mine ends in WANS A0 101T. Looks like alot of them end differnetly. Didnt know if maybe it was the same cable for all DV4 models.  Looks the same ?
I don't know. Normally you can check on the HP site, they often have a technical handbock for their laptops which includes the part numbers and ordering numbers for all kinds of parts. Probably it is also better to order directly from HP.
