Amazon Cloud - Setting static IP address

Has anyone worked with the Amazon cloud where you can set a static ip address in the Local Area Connection IP4 properties? I know how to set a static ip to an instance in Amazon, but the NIC card is still set to dynamic. I have an application that requires a set static IP address in the properties of the network connection.

it will depend upon the operating system of the instance that you have hosted on amazon.  what type of o/s are you running?

A fully description on how to use static IP Addresses within the amazon cloud can be found on their blog:

You cannot have a static IP address in the traditional sense. An EC2 instance that will be modified to have a static NIC address will fail to restart. The EC2 static IP addressing is really a NAT configuration that let's you reserve an internet IP.

See if you can set up a loopback adapter and use the loopback address for your application. That's what we do to use AD or Oracle on windows in EC2.
