Apple Mail SMTP password problem

Hello, I have a user who has this annoying pop up asking for the SMTP password to send her mail. I have gone in and wiped out all of the SMTP servers and re entered the correct one with the password saved. It worked for a couple of days but now it's back. How do I get rid of it? It's a G4 mac mini, in a MAC OS Server environment. Email hosted by Roadrunner POP accounts.

I see something similar on my personal POP account. The problem usually has nothing to do with the Mac or OS X or the mail client or the password. It's some synch thing between the mail client and the ISP/email hoster.

Try this.  The next time that happens, just cancel instead of putting in the PW.  Then wait a few minutes and take the account back online if it's been taken off and the Get new mail. Chances are it will work. Or if not then, try again in another few minutes. I can go for ages and ages without an issue then all of a sudden this will start.

Funny you say that. The user just clicks cancel and the mail goes anyway. It's just an annoyance for her that's all. And the first thing she'll say is, "Why don't the other mac users have this problem?" Ughhh.

I have seen that work as well, but not usually. Has she dropped it into her keychain?  Those boxes many times have a check box to add this to the user's keychain. If she has not checked to allow that, she might give that a shot.

Are you using Mac Mail?  If so, check the SMTP server settings and make sure that it's set to Only use this server.

Also clear out any stored SMTP passwords in the Keychain using the Keychain Access utility.

Yup, it's set to use ONLY that server. Even tho there isn't any other SMTP servers listed except that one.

Does it happen all the time or just occasinally? If it's just occasionally, then it may be a timing thing between that client and the email host and I'm not sure there's anything to do.

why not delete the account and reconfigure it and see if that helps. also you can try to create the same account in a new USER PROFILE and see if that makes any difference.

is there anything in the keychain re-passwords. why not delete the keychain for it and then add back in again.
