I have a user that is running win 7 64bit.  He is using an HP laserjet 1022N printer.  Installed the 64bit drivers and it's been working fine for months.  All of a sudden a few weeks ago, it happens once in a while, when he tries to print, it doesn't do anything, unless he hits the power button on the printer (to turn it off/on).  It's like it goes into a sleep mode or something.
The same thing is happening to the VP as well, same printer, but he is using Lion on his Macbook Pro.
I also have the same printer for testing, and it's doing the exact same thing to me as well.
I've tested numerous things, I unchecked the autoIP, mDNS, bootP, I'm only using the static IP address for it, to include the gateway and subnet.

I don't think all three boards went bad at the same time, so it somehow must be a networking issue somehow?  I checked DNS, and there are no duplicates in there for the IPs of the printers.  DHCP server only gives out IPs above .100, and the printers are static, so I'm at a loss of what it can be.

If i turn off the printer and back on, then it works for a few hours or so, maybe longer.

Are you using a UPS if so that may be going out or getting discharged. Did you check the voltages adn make sure they are all working?

no ups connected.
All the printers are plugged directly into an AC plug.

Well that may be the biggest problem. If you are in an area where you could lose power or spikes or have more than 1 outlet plugged in you def should hook them up to a UPS. Alot of times they will lose power or turn on and off since they are sharing the same electrical outlet. Try connecting it to a UPS and see if that helps stabilize it.

we have not lost power here for at leaset a month or more. I have over 40 printers, and none of them are doing this, except this one model, this exact model.  They are physically in seperate locations, plugged into different wall outlets, on different breakers.  I personally have on in my office, and i know the power didn't go out or not even flicker, as I have a ups on my computer, and it will notify me when I lose power.
It's not a power issue, it's anetwork or printer issue, but I've arleady looked at every aspect of the printer properties.

have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver it may just be a bad one. also you could try to roll back the driver to a previous one if the problems have just been coming up lately. if all that doesnt work you could check the power supply level that its outputing to make sure they are matching up. if that doesnt work you may need to replace the network card in the printer

I did reinstall the drivers on the PCs and mac, but that didn't do anything. I can't roll back the driver. The printer doesn't have a replaceable nic, it's built it to the printer. How do i check the power supply level?

you can do that with a multimeter to make sure it is getting the provided levels it needs.

SO how do I find out what exactly it needs?  Plus, the power cable goes from the wall to the printer, but how come all 3 different recepticls, on different breakers be having problems, that doesn't make sense, I don't think it's a power problem.

Well if you think its a network problem and it works on all other ones and you are using it for a few hours then it stops working you may have to change it to be dynamic instead of static. Maybe the problem with static is its not constantly refreshing. A dynamic setting willl allow it to constantly refresh

I just changed it to auto IP instead of static, but that defeats the point of having a printer with those options. I would like to get to the root cause of the issue.

no it doesn't.  Even after restting to factory default, I still can't print to it and I can't access it's Web management page either.   The only way it will work is if I physically power it down and then back up.

Wanted to give you the pts for trying.

I figured it out, there was a firmware update for this printer that fixes excatly this problem.

The problem is that the firmware update was only listed under xp, and not win7.
Installed it and hopefully we'll see what happens.
