Product Key problem

I have an Office Small Business 2007 product code and the CD/DVD is missing.

I have downloaded the 'backup' from the MS site using the product code and have installed it. However upon inputting the key to activate the software it tells me the key is incorrect and to verify and re-type.

If it let me download the software in the first place surely the key should work.

What am I doing wrong?

You aren't doing anything wrong.  I've had the same problem with 2010.  You'll have to call MS and get them to give you an alternate download.
I had 3 keys all from the same source.  The download worked on the first one and not on the other 2.  I called MS and they gave me an alternate location to download that worked with the other 2 keys.
