Windows 2008 R2 System Reserve Partition
On my Windows 2008 R2 server I have a 100MB System Reserve partition that doesn't have a drive letter. From what I have read this partitio is where the boot information is stored.
- My backup is having problem backing up this partition. What file format, FAT32, NTFS is this partition. Is any System State data store here. Is it ok not to backp this parttion. By backup application is giving me VSS errors when trying to backup this volume.

Are you saying the 100MB partition contains system state data as well?
I think so. Because I had always problems when I restore system partition only. And this MSR partition is set active.
You need either to free up space in it or move the whole staff from it to C: drive and delete MSR at all.
But still you do not say what type of errors you get.

how can I clear the contents of the System reserve partion if it doesn't have a drive letter??
You can assign a drive letter to this partition easily via Windows Disk Management.
And yes, MSR has BootMgr file plus Boot folder which contains boot process graph and text data.
How much space is used on this partition? Is it full?
