After running updates the SBS 2003 server produced an error:

"lsass.exe-system error: Security Accounts Manager initialization failed" error message - it recomeneded going into Directory services restore.  After attempting to start this the folliwing error comes up no matter how I try to start (safe mode / last known G C / etc):
System error:LSASS.EXE: When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct

I do not want to wipe this system. Are there any ideas???

Do you have a system state backup? You can boot into DSRM and restore.

    Is this your only DC?

    Assisted Solution

it sounds like you may have a corrupt registry. I would not delete any file like this article says, just rename to *.old so you can rename if the process does not work. You can do this through the recovery console or boot from a live CD.
