How big of database can WSS 3.0 Support?

Hi,

We have WSS 3.0 databases that are getting big, 16 GB and 7 GB, and growing. Are there size limits with the internal database? Could there be performance impacts with 16 GB or larger WSS 3.0 databases?

Thanks

If you are that size, then you are probably on a full MS SQL server... Your limit is in the TBs

You should be fine. Your performance will depend on your hardware more than teh database.

SQL Server 2005 Express has a 4 GB limit.  SQL Server 2008 R2 Express has a 10 GB limit.  WSS itself doesn't really have a hard limit, but Microsoft recommends limiting content db's to 100 GB

I have a follow up question, if MS SQL Server Standard edition is installed and we what to use file groups to split the database up, is this supported by WSS 3.0?

This technical paper will help you implement VMware’s VM encryption as well as implement Veeam encryption which together will achieve the nothing ever in the clear goal. If a bad guy steals VMs, backups or traffic they get nothing.
