Google Analytics statistics suddenly drop for our Intranet

We use Google Analytics for our Intranet. This has been working like a charm for years. But since september 16th, suddenly the amount of visits has dropped about 80%. This cannot be caused by actual visits that have dropped. Also, no changes were made in our firewall. The Google Analytics code in the page templates are unchanged and exactly match the code that Google provides.

We have looked at other activities within our company that could have anything to do with this sudden change, but have found nothing. From the intranet server, we can succesfully ping from our intranet server.

Any ideas that could help us to solve this problem are very welcome.
Thank you for any suggestion that you may provide.

If you have not altered the google codes and every other thing is thesame, the results you are getting should be the correct values. It is possible that you had a process that was bloating up up the values on your analytics result previously and that process has now been stopped. You might want to check to see what process that was if you keep logs on your intranet.  Otherwise, I do not see any plausible reason why it should change if the physical usage on the intranet has not indeed changed.

My guess will be that you have altered the location of the google codes or you are referencing a different page template. A colleague once changed his footer template and that change automatically resulted in different results with analytics. You might want to verify what changes you have recently made.

To troubleshoot further you might want to compare results from alternative analytic tools e,g
