Pc's dropping network

have an issue on a site where the connection to the internet on a few workstations drops. They are able to access the server shares. Unable to ping the router (sonicwall) or access the web. If we do an IP release and renew we are able to ping the router and access to the web is restored.

Any ideas?

It sounds to me like your DNS server is not obtaining the address correctly. Do you ahve it set to obtain aoutomatically or manually?

Are you using an ISP? If so try looking at port 1024 to see if its getting blocked

I've had a similar situation with a Watchguard Firebox. What happened was, there was malware on one PC that was port scanning, and the firewall had itself blocked the IP address of the PC.

Of course, allocating a new IP to the PC got around the problem for a short while, but eventually the firewall blocked the new IP because it was still port scanning.

I would search the firewall logs for the IP addresses that are getting blocked.
