How do I create an asp.net blog within my custom template?

Hi,

I have built my own asp.net web site running on IIS 6.0. I'm wondering if there are any decent open source blogs or blog engine's out there that I can place within a template page so it fits nicely into my web site, i.e. encapsulates my navigation, logos etc. I'm also willing to pay for a blog that will wrap within my template if anyone can point me in the right direction.

The functionality I am looking for is:

•      Be able to add ‘add this’ or similar functionality to each story
•      Be able to embed YouTube videos
•      Ability for users to leave comments after they have been moderated
•      Categories (with a page per category of stories in that category)
•      Tags (with a page of tags of stories in that tag)
•      RSS feed for overall site
•      RSS for each category
•      Ability to schedule stories for future publishing
•      Archiving by month

Thanks.

hi,

you can try out with word-press which is a free blogging site... however you need to do some customization to have them embedded in ur site...

Could you elaborate more on these customizations?

customizations like,

an container(with links) to list the wordpress blogs
set the references for the list of blogs created in wordpress,
list them based on the blogs categories
etc...

to share with you my experience, we created a custom webpart to list the links for the blogs/posted  created in wordpress... later on all the activities are carried out with wordpress like those you mentioned

dex,

It looks like wordpress is developed using php? I need an asp.net solution that can run on IIS 6.0. My template is built using asp.net and I need to drop the blog into it within a usercontrol if possible?

Thanks.

wordpress basically stores the blogs\posts content in tables (mysql). you can query them and render in your template/user control as required.

also do get the appropriate mysql connector for .Net

pl refer: http://codex.wordpress.org/Database_Description
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/

dex,

So will blog posts have to be created, editted, administered through a seperate UI, i.e. an external link from my web site? Or can I embed wordpress into my current asp.net application?

Thanks.

Yes, you manage all the posts/blogs in wordpress where your site acts as an inteface to connect to wordpress...

I think it is not possible to embed wordpress into your asp.net application, as you know it is written in php
