# Decrease numbers in data range to equal specific number

I have a data range in a row which sum = 229.  I need to decrease the number to sum = 184.  The data range of numbers is different in each cell..so I have 23, 45, 33, 44..ect. ..How would I be able to decrease each cell by percentage so that the end result would produce 184

Accepted Solution

You can multiply every number by 184/229

If the sum is variable make that

=184/SUM(data_range)

You could calculate that number in any cell, copy that cell, then choose data range and then right-click, choose "Paste Special" option and use "Multiply" option > OK > ESC
