BES Delete read emails on computer from blackberry

Hi,

I am trying to setup my blackberry so that if I read an email on my laptop, then it gets deleted off the blackberry. I am running BES 5.

Also I want to have read emails delete automatically off the blackberry, say after 5 hours for example.

How do I do this?

Thanks

If I understand you question, I don't think what you are wanting to do is possible. The system is designed to stay basically in sync. If you delete out of Outlook, then about 30 seconds later, it deletes off the device. Now, by default, if you delete on the device, it only deletes off the device. You can change this by hitting the menu key while in email and selecting options. If you are one OS 6, then you need to go to "email reconciliation" and change "delete on: handheld" to "delete on: mailbox & handheld". There is no way to build in a 5 hour delay on the deletion from Outlook to the device.

Also, just to add to what rbarnhardt said, there's no way to set the server to delete emails when they are read in your laptop email client, only when they are deleted from the laptop.

ok, but will the blackberry store emails say 3 months old? or will it only hold emails a certain time?

Well, with BES, a lot of times as long as they are in your inbox, they will show up on your BB from the time you activated it as long as you don't have a huge amount of them. However, there is not a lot of storage, so if you are "storing messages" on your BB, the default is 30 days. You can change this.

On device OS 6.0 and higher, in message options, to to "Message Display and Actions"
scroll down to "Days to Keep Messages", select the length of time you want to keep them.

is there anyway to make it lower than 15 days, I know with the iPhone you can make it 1 or 3 days.

You are correct it is a limitation of the Blackberry, you cannot select a smaller time.
