my server is a 2008R2 standard. i just found that my Security event viewer can't be loaded with the following error shown:
Event viewer cannot open the event log or custom view.  Verify that Event log service is running or query is too long.  Access is denied (5)

i can see other event logs but not the security. please advice how i can view the log again.

Typically this is because the use account you're using doesn't have local admin rights. Can you read the log if you launch event viewer with elevated privileges?

    Accepted Solution

I had logged in with administrator already.  By the way, I rebooted the server this morning and the event viewer of security is back to normal now.  Thanks for your reply.

Rebooting the server is one of the best solutions.
