Once you declare a stateful session bean look at the bean cycle. It will maintain the state for you.

No. Once you declare a  bean to be a stateful session bean and deploy it ; the container - jboss or weblogic will take care of how to make it stateful. All you need to do is make sure you declare it as stateful.

No, the ejb container will save the reference of the bean, using which you can access it later also.
