Sony Vio

Dear All,

I have a sony vio laptop model# vgn-s28gp, i lost the bios password and need to change some settings...

Kindly advice what is the best way to reset the password...

I am not sure about Laptops. Desktop this should work.
Simplest way is to remove BIOS battery for sometime and connect again.

Removing the backup battery from a laptop no longer clears BIOS passwords on modern models.  BIOS passwords are now stored in mini-flash chips separate from the BIOS settings.

See the EE article on laptop passwords.  At present we have no information on Sony; however, there are generalities in it which may help you.

From my own experience with Sony products, if the laptop needs to go to a Sony authorized service center the cost will be at least $200.  That seems to be the minimum charge for looking at any Sony product in warranty.  If it is out of warranty, the charge will be at least $300.  If you decide to go through Sony and learn their policy on BIOS password removal, please let me know so the article can be kept up to date.
