how do you stop Toolbar Updater

The Toolbar Updater is constantly accessing resources.  I'm guessing it is Google.  Can it be stopped?

If is is good software, then there should be an unintall in the Control Panel for Programs. If there is no uninstall it very likely is malware and something like Combofix will remove it for you.

I'm running Win7 and there is no Google Updater, just Google Toolbar in Programs and Features.

If you do not need Google Toolbar, then remove that application and see if the problem still exists.  If it does, then perhaps you do have malware as WalterH suggested, or maybe a different toolbar installed like from Yahoo!

Can you just put Google Search on there?  If so how

Google Updater runs in the background.  I believe it is installed with almost every Google program like Chrome and the Google toolbar.

You can change your default seach engine in IE to use Google so that it will be the search function in the upper right corner -
Tools - Internet Options - Search - Settings - add Google and make default
OR
Make Google the home page.

If you want the features of a full Google app like Google Desktop then you may want to leave the update run.  Usually it's agood thing to stay current.  Otherwise check the settings for the app, probably has an option to not check for updates.

Can also remove Google Updater from startup on the PC (MSCONFIG, etc.)  It may fix itself and come back though, expecially it a manual update is ran.
