Hi,

Can I install Kismet on CentOs. Kismet Documentation is about installing it on Ubuntu. I am complete noob and would really appreciate any pointers.

Thanks !

First setup the rpmforge yum repository -- http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories/RPMForge
then
yum install kismet

I recommend using yum-priorities as well if you are using 3rd party repos.

Great ! Thanks a lot PaperTrip. CentOs is on a virtual machine. How do I download / move file to a virtual machine ?

You can use the wget command to download the RPM in that link.

For example
wget http://packages.sw.be/rpmforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el6.rf.x86_64.rpm

"yum install wget" if command not found.

Thanks a lot man ! I am getting error -

Temporary failure in name resolution. wget: unable to resolve host address  'packages.sw.be'

I am using wget http://packages.sw.be.be/rpforge-release/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.e15.rf.i386.rpm

If that is the actual link you gave to wget, it's got some typos.

If you are using the correct link and still get the name resolution failure, try 'ping yahoo.com' to make sure resolution is working in general.  If it's not, then paste the contents of /etc/resolv.conf

Hey, Sorry for replying late. You were right, nameserver address was incorrect, I changed it and now I am able to ping and wget. But I still get error 404: Not found. Please see attached screen shot. Screen Shot of console window

I got a few extra redirects, but it eventually downloaded for me.  Looks like I finally got it from

http://apt.sw.be/redhat/el5/en/i386/rpmforge/RPMS/rpmforge-release-0.5.2-2.el5.rf.i386.rpm

Doesn't go through for me. Still gives me 404. But opens on windows. Strange !
May be some problem with the mirror ?

That is definitely bizarre.  You can download WinSCP on your Windows machine and copy the file from there to your CentOS box.

Windows is unnecessary, ensure that the URL is good, and the utility you want to use is curl.  To instLl:

yum install curl

Then.....

curl -L http://whatever.the/url/is

Sorry, im on my phone and copy/paste is a pain

Cheers

wget is sufficient for downloading files from web URL's, and follows 3xx redirects just like -L does for curl.

Sorry guys ! Didn't get chance to work over the weekend.

wget request went through properly today morning. I don't know what changed.

I successfully installed kismet. Although I am totally lost in the configuration part. Will open a question on that.

Thanks a lot guys !
