We've enabled folder redirection of the My Documents and Desktop folders on our SBS2011. A user that took his laptop home just called and complained that his My Documents and Desktop folders aren't there. I was under the impression that the system would cache those folders locally so that users could have access to them while offline. Am I not correct in that assumption?

User is using Windows 7 SP1.

Thanks.

Yes but did you verify they sync'd before they disconnected from the network?

We did not. Would that have been the issue?

If folder redirection is enabled it requires up to 3 domain logons before the polcy is appled to the computer the first time. Then it needs enough time to sync. If it is a very large my Documents or Dektop folder it can take hours to do so. With laptops it is best to right click on the sync icon on the lower right and choose "Sync all" and then "Sync results" to see if syncronization occured and if there were any errors. Once working it should be seemless. The user should log off and not just disconnect from the network as well to assure sync is complete.
