SQL Server not showing up during Dynamics CRM Install

I am trying to install a trial of Dynamics CRM 2011

I have installed the trial of SQL 2008R2 and have enabled named pipes and TCP/IP protocols on the SQL server.

Both Dynamics and SQL are on the same machine, yet Dynamics doesn't see the SQL server during the install process. I am stuck at the screen that says, "Create or connect to a deployment"

If I hit the drop down menu, the only choice I have is for an SQL instance that is running on a different server, and it is one I certainly don't want to install the trial on.

What gives?

    Hi DataDudes,

Make sure that your SQL services are running i.e. Start -> Run -> type Services.msc and check if MSSQL server and related services are running.
If they are then just put . in the Create or connect to a deployment dialogue and click on next.
