Brother MFC-7840w won't print when in sleep mode

Brother MFC-7840w won't print when in sleep mode.  It is supposed come out of sleep mode when a print job is sent to the printer, but it doesn't.  I have to turn off the printer and even some times both the computer and printer and then turn them back on again before it will print.  Any ideas on how to solve this issue?  Thanks.
