If you are using a NAT network connection you will not be able to ping the the virtual machine.

If you want to ping the virtual machine, switch the network connected to Bridged.

As farzani says, for example:

ping 64.99.80.30

Where 64.99.80.30 is pool.ntp.org

In case ping is not in your path, try /usr/sbin/ping or /sbin/ping instead

ping (ICMP echo) is not required for proper operation of IP stack. If you can connect in any way it is OK and ignore the ping failure.

long answer: find firewall rule which blocks ICMP echo.
