Ipad for videos kids in car

Hi,

I wondered if there are possibilities to mount an ipad in a car so my kids can watch their videos.
The thing is:
-how to mount it so they can both watch 1 ipad
-how to play dvd s, I could rip them but still there would only fit a small amount of video s,  whereas I would like to take my whole collection
-how to play other formats as mkv etc

Any tips welcome.
J.

Car audio places sell mounting kits for iPads, either as setback mount or a ceiling mount. That would be your best bet.

I use rammount for many iPad mounts and have always been satisfied. The cupholder one in particular may be perfect if you have center cup holders in the back seat.

I use cinx player and it's played anything I've thrown at it.

To get around the storage limit you would need something else to store the files and a network to share them. Probably too complex for a car setup.

The mounting system for your car should not be a problem.  There are many out there.  It would have to be in the middle of the car and forward far enough to give each child (i assume sitting left and right on the window) as little angle as possible to see it, but also not too far forward that it annoys you guys in the front.

The technical problem with wanting ALL your videos and being able to play all file types is more of a problem.  The iPad alone is not going to handle this. If that is your wish you are going to need another device to support it.  My suggestion is to look into plex. Plex Media Solution.  Set up plex on your macbook.  If you need extra storage you would be limited to 2.5 inch hard drives that do not need extra power.  Then with your wifi turned on - in your macbook your create your own network in the car to which the iPad connects.  Once the iPad running the Plex client is in the same network then all the movies (no matter what format) will be available to the iPad.

A PC can run Plex, but I am not sure if they create their own network like OSX does.  You might need a little portable router.

I would think that both the iPad and your laptop would need power otherwise the kids would only get about 1 movie in before needing charging of something.

Free Tool: Subnet Calculator

The subnet calculator helps you design networks by taking an IP address and network mask and returning information such as network, broadcast address, and host range.

Looks great for whomever sits behind that seat. Will the other kid be able to see it?

Thanks! Now I saw the first one was about Galaxy Tab. It seems this tablet has become the equal part of the Ipad(?)

If you are referring to my first link, the mount is universal.
