I downloaded the install file for sql server 2008 management studio express but it seems to only want to install to my C:\ drive.  But I want to install it on my D: drive (which is just a partioned portion of the same drive).

Any help?

You can easily install to c an set your data and backup directories to d during install. The actual imstall to c doesn't take much room and as you have found, it really wants to go to c. Even If you pick another folder on c, shared files and stuff still end up in program files. I gave up fighting it and just chose d for data files and never looked back. That's where all the real storage is used anyway.
