Playlist For Part Of a File

I recently became aware of .wvx playlist files that allow me to create a playlist for a videos that is broken into multiple files.  Is there any playlist file type that solves the opposite problem (multiple videos in one file)? I am looking for a something like a playlist file that has instructions to "play video file my_video.avi between 1:30:00 and 1:52:00 (ideally this would be a file that windows media player would recognize).

I could accomplish this by copying that section of the video file and placing it in its own file but this would cost time and cpu cycles (to re-encode), and disk space so I would love to be able to create a playable reference to a section of the already existing file.  Can anyone tell me how to do this?

Thanks

dave4dl  there i sno automated method here you will need to recode. avi is more difficult
unless you have adobe Encore flash is acceptable
what I think you are referring to here is kind of like cue points / time stamps.. on an audio tape or video. disc
In other words Action scripts.
Either way you have to re-encode,
and since you dont want to do this refs to>but this would cost time and cpu cycles (to re-encode), and disk space
but here's some information for you on the topic

Thank you for your response.  I have never used Adobe Encore to do this (I usually use Adobe Premier) so thanks for pointing that out, I think I will look into that when I have some time to see if it is better in Encore.

I will leave this question open for a little while to see if anyone knows how to do this.  If this isn't possible in windows media player, the next best thing in my mind would be a playlist with "cue points" that works in a different media player (like VLC).

I decided to do a little googling myself to find the answer and found it on this website: http://superuser.com/questions/12312/windows-media-player-how-to-start-playing-a-video-at-a-particular-time-offset.

The file to use is an .asx file.

Thanks for your expertise Merete.  If my question was misleading I apologize.  I mentioned .wvx files but that wasn't what my question was about.  I said:
Is there any playlist file type that solves the opposite problem (multiple videos in one file)? Your answer was:
there i sno automated method here you will need to recode
which I found was incorrect.
