I have Flash Builder 4.5 and I decided to build a web site as a learning tool and to get my feet wet with action-script, but before I get too far into it, are there any issues with building a site using Flash Builder/Flex and interacting with a MySQL database?

Hi comtekso, for the moment it's not possible to connect directly to a mysql database using Flex and actionscript, Adobe don't provide any tool or library to do it, to interact with a database you still need a server side language to communicate with your database.
http://cookbooks.adobe.com/post_Simple_MySQL_to_Flex-5561.html this is an example of how to retrieve data from database using php server side and using httpservice client side.

I signal you this library too, it permits to connect directly to a mysql database using actionscript, but it's still in beta development so all features are not fully implemented, this library is assql and you can find it here:
