Exchange connection? Checked your offline status in the lower right? If this is a desktop have you disable Cached Exchange Mode?

Is this Outlook connected to an Exchange server? Which version of Outlook?

Do you use POP3 or imap? Do your emails just sit in the Outbox? Need a bit more details.

emails just sit in the outbox.  it is a POP3 connection.  Outlook 2007.
I tried to delete one of the emails in the outbox and got a message that said something about it was in the process of being sent.  Those are not verbatum words.

Anything stuck in the outbox? Maybe something with an attachment?

If there is nothing crucial, shift+delete the items in outbox and try a test email to a gmail or yahoo account. Watch the send/receive status for indications of any problems.

It's possible that it's still trying to send it.  Cancel it, delete the msgs in the Outbox and try sending a new email.

Check that you have Office 2007 SP1 or SP2 installed

There was a Known issue in Outlook 2007 where messages could get stuck in the Outbox.
This was initially resovled in SP1

However, SP2 is now available and should resolve the problem
