Hi All,

I have a windows server 2008 R2 domain server set up.  I can't make network discovery stay on.  I go the advanced sharing on the adapter and click Turn on network discovery, hit apply and the window closes.  However, it doesn't stay on!  If I look at it again, it still shows network discovery as turned off, that is the radio button for that has a dot in it.  And I can't see the server in My network places.  Can you help me?  I can ping the IP of the server so it's there and I can find it in active directory.

network discovery is governed by group policy.... and is disabled by default on domains.

Okay, that's good to know.  How do I change the group policy to enable network discovery so that I can see the server from other computers on the network?

Okay, I solved the issue myself.  It's not a group policy issue, really.  I read the help item concerning Network Discovery which says:

In order to enable the Network Discovery on a domain make sure the following services are enabled and running:

DNS Client
Function Discovery Resource Publication
SSDP Discovery
UPnP Discovery

If all these services are running you will be able to modify the Network Discovery settings.

After I went to the services.msc application, and did what the above said, I was able to make the Network Discovery remain active.
