Cisco upgrade command

When would I use the upgrade command?

1#upgrade ?
  epld         Electrically programmable logic devices
  firmware     Upgrade firmware image
  hw-module    Slot/subslot level commands
  rom-monitor  ROM Monitor

This is not IOS correct?

EPLD's are things like

IO, Power engine, Linksec engine etc.  HW module are the attachments you can put no to modular routers.  You have to upgrade that firmware separately.  ROMMON is the softare image.  i'ts closer to copty tftp flash.

So "upgrade firmware" is the same as "copy tftp flash:"?

How about the other options? epld, hw-module and rom-monitor when do you use them?

Upgrading the IOS should be fairly simple. Make sure you have a tftp server running with the new image, then have a look at: http://www.debianadmin.com/upgrade-cisco-ios-on-router-and-switche.html

I know how to upgrade the IOS using the copy command.

The question is what the "upgrade" command is used for?

If anyone has a link to a good command reference for a 6504 with IOS Version 12.2(17r)SX5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

That command reference should document the upgrade command.

Does Cisco sometimes "hide" information about commands that they don't want people using?
