Use MagicISO to build an ISO, mount in the CDROM drive on the VM, or use Shared Folders, you will need to install VMware Tools, or copy across the network.

In your VMWare software, you should have a shared folder between the two OS'.  Use that folder to copy files back and forth

Have you enabled Shared Folders for the VM?

Check VM Settings, Options, Shared Folders?

Can't you copy paste or move the files from Windowx XP to Ubunto using WinSCP?
