Web Download problem

I am trying to download a 7.8M file tapecalc.exe from my web server.  On my development system and on all of the desktops, 4, the file download perfectly, but on our two portable, only abou 100K of the file downloads.  The desktops are 3 Window 7 and 1 XP machine, The portables are new have Windows7.  The portables have IE8 and the other have IE7 or IE9.  One could conclude that IE8 was the problem, but I need a fix.  Any suggestions.

Can you download other file type (not .exe file)?

It could be the antivirus software caused the problem.

zip the .exe in your web server and try to download it again, or disbale the antivirus software, anti spyware software and try again.

I changed the file from an .exe to a .zip and the download worked great on IE8.  Now I have the problem of telling the customer how to run the setup program.  In Windows 7 you can just double click on the zip file and the setup will run.  I can test this on xp, where I doubt it will work, but will it work on Vista.  I don't have a current copy of vista and I don't know anyone who does.
