EqualLogic housekeeping

If I Thin Provision a 3TB VOL to an ESX 4.1/DataStore, I use up say 2TB. In EQL, the unused space is 1TB.
Say over time I have deleted a lot of VMs in the ESX 4.1/DataStore.
So the actual usage in Vmware has reduced from 2TB to 1TB, in other words the free space has increased from 1TB to 2TB.
But the unused space on the VOL in EQL did not increase to 2TB.
Is there a way to like degrafment? automated housekeeping tool? etc?

    Accepted Solution

Not yet, because there is no way for ESX to tell EqualLogic which blocks are now free. EqualLogic only knows that they have been written to at some point in the past. EqualLogic currently have no way to re-thin a volume. The only method is to copy everything to a new volume. The storage industry, including EqualLogic is working on APIs to allow what you are looking for, but they also require OS support, so this may not become available until Windows Server 8.
