electronic fax confirmation receipts
I need to know if there a multifunction printer out there that will do automatic fax confirmations to email or PC. We can send/receive faxes on the computer but fax confirmations still print - looking for a total paperless solution that will do automatic fax confirmation receipts.
You might want to consider a fax server http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fax_server to handle incoming faxes and send outgoing faxes. You will still need to tackle the problem DrKlahn mentioned of identifying the email of an incoming fax - perhaps map sending phone numbers?
haylafax with just a single modem can be setup so that windows and mac users can "print to fax" and receive email notification of transmission or any faults with transmission. to do inbound call routing requires a DDI number per email address and either a pbx/analog modem combination that supports DDI or an ISDN card that supports extension numbering.

routing the confirmations to the specific user is NOT important. all i need is electronic send/receive/confirm. As i mentioned, i can already send/receive but the copier still prints confirmations. we do A LOT of faxing so that's a lot of wasted paper. would a regular fax server (please provide links to solutions) work?

It's simple enough if all receipts are routed to the same email address, but this is almost certainly not what you want.
On the other hand, if each receipt is to be routed back to the sender of the fax, then some method is needed to specify the email of the sender to the fax server, and so far as I know there is no way to do that within the fax standard.
