vSphere 5 Web Client "Movie not loaded..."

Trying to set up vCenter 5 up on a brand new Windows 2008R2 server. The install completes fine but trying to load either the admin page or the client page results in just a plain blue screen. Right clicking gives the flash context menu with "Movie not loaded..." ghosted out.

I have tried this on two different servers, both clean builds, both have flash 11 installed. The flash plugin does work as youtube videos play fine. I have tried getting version 10 installed but it wont install without trying to put 11 on instead, however using the stand alone version of 10.3 still doesn't display anything.

I have set the site as a trusted site and dropped the security level as low as it will go... no difference. Am I missing some other config options within 2008R2 which may be blocking this content? I disabled the firewall as a test, as any other machine apart from the server, doesn't even get a blank screen (probably a different issue), but this made no difference.

are you able to install the vSphere client and connect to the VC ok?

Did you look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2007713 Registering or unregistering vCenter Server to the Windows vSphere Web Client when Adobe Flash player cannot be installed

Thanks Dan,

Yep, the client works fine and personally will probably use that over the web client but there are some more basic admins who may find the web client easier.

I had seen that page but considering flash is installed, I thought there was another issue. However, for completeness I have run the admin script and registered the client, and whadaya know, the workstations all burst into life. The flash app is still not loading on the server though so something is not quite right, although it seems less important now...

If anyone can shed any light on the server issue, they can share in the points, otherwise I will close the thread.

I had issues getting flash to install on my VC, too.  It would get to 12% on the download dialog and then say it couldn't finish the download but a reboot fixed that.

Did you disable the IE security for all 3 areas?  I have it all disabled, but can't think of anything else that might matter.

Flash installation was never a problem. This app just wouldnt run, even under the standalone flash player.

Can't explain this at all still, but as we will not be logging on to the server to use the console, the suggestion to register it seperately is good enough
