Added mailbox, now need permission to see the message contained

I have added the mailbox to the list in outlook. It appears under the Inbox. When I click on it, a message appears in the message windows, saying "cannot access object". Basically I need to add this person to the new mailbox permissions?

I can see the mailbox, I just can't view the messages.

    Accepted Solution

The owner of the mailbox you are trying to view will need to set this person as a delegate for their inbox.

If you have Exchange 2003 open Active Directory Users and Computers, click the account, click the Exchange Advanced tab, and then click Mailbox Rights > Add that user you want to grant the permissions.

If you have the exchange tools plugin installed in Active Directory, go to the new mailbox's user name.  Right click->Properties->Exchange Advanced (Tab)->Mailbox Rights (Button).  Then you can add them in with the appropriate rights.  Once this is done, restart outlook on the computer.

On Exchange 2007 you can use the powershell command. For example, to give User2 full access to User1’s mailbox, our cmdlet is:

    Add-MailboxPermission User1 –User User2 –AccessRights FullAccess

you need to ask the administrator to grant you the permissions or the user must grant you the permissions himself.
if he granted you the permissions it might take up to 2 hours to apply those permissions
