Netgear DG834G VPN

Hello,

I have a Netgear DG834G VPN router (v5). I have a Windows 7 laptop. I would like to VPN to my router so that when im working away I can be on the local network.

Can anyone recommend a simple way to do this. Is there any way with the Windows 7 software and configuration with the router?

I have downloaded and tried the Netgear ProSafe software but not with much luck and I have to say I really do not like the interface and working of the software.

Any suggestions would be greatly received.

Regards,

The Netgear requires an IPSec VPN client. You can use the following clients Safenet, Netgear Prosafe, Watchguard MUVPN, but they are all made by Safenet and cost the same amount. One other is The Greenbow, but it too is similar in cost and complexity, however the instructions may be more detailed:

Should you ever need support, Netgear will only assist if using the Netgear Prosafe VPN client, so I would recomend it. It does work well but is a little complex if you are not familiar with VPN configurations. The following outlines an actual client and router configuration using the Prosafe client and Netgear FVS318. You may find it helpful.

Hi RobWill,

Thanks for the post. I have had another fine search around the internet and have managed to find the attached PDF which gives step-by-step instructions on how to configure pro-safe and my Netgear DG834G. I will try it later today! The only problem is the prosafe software I have is newer than the one in the instructions, but hopefully I can figure it out!
