dropdownlist control in a detailsview

I have an object that has a couple of true/false properties.  by default the detailsview control is displaying them as checkboxes.  I would like to have them displayed in dropdownlist control that has an item list of true and false.

any help appreciated.  I'm trying to make sense out of templates, but not having much luck.
