BackupExec VMware backups failing using SAN transport method

Hi all

We are running Backup Exec 2010 R3 on a 2008 R2 server and want to backup our VMware VMs directly from our Equalogic iSCSI SAN.

When we try to do this using the SAN transport method it failed with the following error...

Backup- VMVCB::\\LEYVCT01\VCGuestVm\(DC)Leyland(DC)\vm\TESTSERVER
V-79-57344-38277 - Unable to open a disk of the virtual machine.
VixDiskLib_Open() reported the error: You do not have access rights to this file

We have two seperate NICs, one connects to the main network where the vCenter server and the ESXi hosts are and the other connects to the SAN.

We have disable automount and used the iSCSI Initiator to connect to the relevant LUN which appears in disk manager as a Basic disk which is online and the partition shows as Healthy.

We are running the job using a domian admin acount which has full admin rights to the vCenter Server, the ESXi Hosts and the VM.

I have also tried setting up BackupExec on a 2003 R2 server and get the same error.

Can anyone please help ?

Thanks

i think te san option should be used, if you backup server is connected to the san directly via iscsi or fibre, and can talk to the san for snaps. please check th hardware compatibility and setup requirements

After we moved Backup Exec to a new server this started working so not sure what the problem was.

Thanks for the advice.
