Does Visual FoxPro 8.0 Professional support VSS?

I'm using Shadow Protect 4.X to take disk snapshots of my Server 2003 server, and Shadow Protect uses VSS to do so.

We have a custom Visual FoxPro 8.0 application and database system (not SQL, just DBF, .FPT f files and the like) residing on this server that is mission critical.

Does  Visual FoxPro 8.0 support VSS?

I don't think that's the same thing. Same acronym, but I'm specifically referring to "Volume Shadow Service".

Sorry for the confusion

I too was all set to give you some input (albeit 2nd hand) on VFP with Visual SourceSafe (also a.k.a. VSS)

Now with your clarification I can only suggest you do a Google search for
   VFP "Volume Shadow Service"
and see if you can find any answers with the 'finds'

Good Luck

VFP is a file oriented database, so the volume shadowing will work with DBF files as if it would have been any other file type.

The safest option is to create a shadow copy when your VFP application is not running. In such case you are sure the copy reflects the stable data state.

Shadowing will also work when the VFP application is running but it cannot ensure data integrity because VFP applications do not have API interface which could accept requests from VSS.

BUT VFP is open in many directions. If you are familiar with C programming then you may write such interface yourself and integrate it into VFP application.

@jrbbld , why didn't you just send me a "let me google that for you" link. I mean, where do you think I start?

@pcelba , thanks for the insight. I was afraid that was the answer, but I wanted to be for certain.
