Android based cell phone keeps only a limited number of texts before deleting them

I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S2 (Samsung-SGH-1777) with AT&T running Android 2.3.4. I recently noticed that the phone has starting deleting older texts to a particular contact (with whom the most texts have been send and received). The more texts that are sent and received from this contact, the more earlier texts are deleted.

I want the phone to keep all texts from the very beginning Iike my iPhone did. Is there a setting that I'm missing that allows this? Or is there an alternative app that has this functionality? Had I known that the phone was going to start deleting older texts, I wouldn't have purchased the it.

    Open the android text messaing application, touch the menu button, then choose settings.

    Towards the bottom of the settings there is a section for 'Storage settings".  There is a checkbox for "Delete Old Messages".  Make sure this is unchecked and you should not have an issue anymore.

    Alternatively you can check the box and then adjust  the text message limit you want to have for your device.
