Is a license required to install SQL 2008 server tools on multiple PCs

Hi All
my developer has asked me to install all the SQL Server 2008 tools on multiple end user PCs.  My question is:  Do i need a license for each install?  Not installing database, reporting services, etc.  just the connection tools
thanks

If you are talking the SQL management studio then yes.  If you use the Management Studio Express then no.  That said I have never seen a license for the full management studio and don't know how you would even get one.  It doesn't ask for it.

No, the tools are provided free for use on the media that SQL Server ships from, however make sure that you install the latest version of the tools.  If you install the Express version of SSMS and SQL Server, you will have to uninstall everything due to the shared components, then install the full version of SSMS and tools.

In 2008 and above you might be able to run the SQL_TOOLS.MSI file to start the installer for just the tools, in 2005 it was something like Run_SQLTOOLS.MSI and you had to run it to get the tools installed since it had a bug in some releases.

No, you don't need a license for SQL Server Management Studio.

Last time I read the license I thought is was pretty clear that you could only install the management studio on one PC but I could be wrong.  Management studio express is seperate from the express version of SQL.

Not to my knowledge and I've been a SQL DBA for better part of 15 years.  Having said that, if you can point me to the language you see in the licensing docs I'd be glad to take a look at it...I do know that Microsoft changes their minds on things a lot.
