From the EVA Disk Drive Replacement Instructions:

If the disk is running an unsupported version of firmware, down-load the correct firmware from the following website and install
it using the instructions included with the firmware file. Do not
add the disk to a disk group if it is running an unsupported firm-ware version.

Have you checked to see if the firmware bundle included the necessary instructions?

I'm pretty sure upgrading disk firmware is covered in the CV EVA user guide, but I can't open PDFs with this PC to check.
