Asterisk Remote  Backup

We use asterisk at HQ. We have started using it to connect remote sites to our corporate PBX.  Works well for us.  I am looking for ideas on providing a backup plan if the corporate PBX is down.  It is a huge single point of failure for us if we continue to convert remote sites to a single corporate pbx?

We keep a spare server. Periodically we sync the main server to the spare and then shut it back down. Usually this is done right before any major updates and a few days after the updates. This way we have a system we can switch back to in case of a problem during the upgrade and once we know it is stable we do another sync to the server.

The pain with doing this was changing the IP address of the box. We now use both interfaces on the servers and can select which IP address to use by turning the port on the switch on or off. I have recently found some scripts to handle the switch over automatically but since we started keeping the spare, I've only had to switch it twice and both times were to make sure we knew how to do it. Having a backup plan is good insurance!

The scripts to do keep a primary and secondary server running are available here. This is supposed to keep both systems in sync and handle the automatic switching of the IP addresses. We have not completed this though it does look to be straight forward.
